FISHING TOURNAMENTS

June 17 to 19
The tournaments consist of:
-1 day of dinner type "socialite" where all registered meet the night before, regularly on Friday.
-2 days of fishing, usually 10 hours the first day and 8 hours the second.
From the days of fishing, a score is created based on a rule, depending on the species taken and the weight of said species. In the case of billfish (white Marlin, Blue Marlin and Sailfish) the Catch and release is necessarily applied (it is fished without taking it out of the water, a video is recorded with a badge to verify authenticity and the hook is removed to set it free) , these species are the most sought after since they automatically add 1,000 points (depending on the regulation).
The tournaments have an entry cost of between 4,500 and 6,000.
They include dinner on Friday, and the participation of both days with a kit of caps, t-shirts and badges.
There are several prizes, the first place usually goes between 100,000 pesos to 250,000 pesos. From there it goes down to motorcycles, rods, hotel nights, etc.

FEBRUARY
The pelagic bite starts to gradually pick up as warmer currents arrive, but the best fishing continues to be over bottom structure or for Snook on the flats. Windy weather can disrupt offshore charters.
MARCH
The windy weather continues, but with it comes Billfish. Sailfish is biting well already and is joined by Blue and White Marlin this month. The beginning of the peak fishing season, this is a good time to try for a Billfish Grand Slam.
APRIL
Everything is biting at this time of year, this is one of the best times to go sport fishing. Fishing is as hot offshore.
